世人評此為“宋代第一泉”，與新莽並稱中國錢發“二聖”西元1100年1月，北宋皇帝哲宗病故，由其弟趙佶接替做了北宋第八任皇帝，為宋徽宗。徽宗“性甚機巧，優於技藝”，終日沉迷於書法繪畫，不理朝綱。他在位25年，先後鑄造了聖宋通寶、崇寧通寶（重寶）、大觀通寶、政和通寶（重寶）、重和通寶、宣和通寶（元寶）等6種錢幣，其中最有市場價值的就是“崇寧通寶”、“崇寧重寶”這兩枚古錢幣。
