众所周知,1927年3月,国民革命军北伐攻克南京,4月宣告建都后,国民积极筹发行以孙中山肖像为图案的新国币。在民国时期,铸造发行了镌有孙中山先生头像各种版式的银币。正面为孙中山像,背面镌一轮金光闪闪的太阳,中间为帆船在乘风破浪前进;1933年和1934年,民国铸造了正面镌孙中山像,背面镌一艘帆船乘风破浪前进,俗称“船洋”。
